BD09 WXM Yorkshire Ambulance Service use this Vauxhall Combo for their commercial training services, including first aid. It carries basic ambulance-coloured livery but no blue lights as it is not classed as an ambulance.

YJ58 FJD This is a Vanhool coach that is used as a jumbulance, a jumbo ambulance. It is used for the mass transportation of sick or injured people. It has two blue flashing beacons at opposite ends of the roof, both protected by a grille.

SN05 CUH is a VW LT46 used by the Scottish Ambulance Service’s Special Operations section as an emergency support unit. It carries extra equipment to the scene of a major emergency.

Y709 JGS Here is a Renault Midlum truck that is used by Scottish Ambulance Service’s Special Operations. There is a small blue light bar on the roof of the cab and a number of small leds around the bodywork.

NC07 PFN and ND59 USZ. Here are a pair of North East Ambulance Service Ford Focuses. The 59-reg model shows Fords facelift and it is also fitted with a blue lens light bar as opposed to the slimmer clear led bar on the older 07 model.

V920 MWT This is a Vauxhall Astra that is used by YorMed First Aid and Medical Services as a private ambulance car. It is not fitted with any blue lights and is half of the company’s fleet, the other vehicle being a Mercedes Sprinter ambulance.

WA58 LDL This ambulance quad bike is marked as “Quad Response” and is operated independently from Bodmin in Cornwall. The bike is a road-legal Can-Am Outlander 650 Max.

M906 STF Event Fire Services operate this rescue ambulance which is hired out for events. It is an imported Chevrolet Chevy Van 20.

CX51 NKP This Land Rover Defender TD5 is used by the workshops of the Welsh Ambulance Service. It is fitted with a blue and an amber flashing light on the roof.

YJ59 OPC This is one of ten Land Rover Discoveries that were new to the YAS area in late 2009. They are used for rapid response duties and allow the possibility of attending calls in inaccessible rural locations or in snow.

B10 HAA This Volvo V70 is owned by Heathrow Air Ambulance, a private ambulance service. This car carries a standard ambulance colour scheme and a personalised registration plate.

W704 YER This is a yellow Volvo V90 ambulance conversion. It was formerly with Wiltshire Ambulance Service based at Trowbridge. It was one of six identical vehicles bought by Wiltshire and similar vehicles were used in a small number of other services in the UK, including Northumbria. It is now in private hands but kept operational.

X637 ABU This Vauxhall Omega is used by the private ambulance service Medi-Response Services. The company specialises in event cover and is based in Llandudno.

SY09 LGX This is a Nissan Pathfinder that is used by the British Red Cross. Notice that the light bar has been attached t the rear demountable bodywork.

NG05 CYW This photo shows a blue Ford Focus that is decked out in ambulance colours. It is operated by County Durham EMS.

P999 MMS is a Ford Mondeo rapid response car that is operated by Manchester Medical Services.

LK07 DOV This Mercedes-Benz Sprinter ambulance is operated by London-based Special Ambulance Transfer Service as a high dependency unit.

OY06 VZU BASICS Hampshire operate this Skoda Octavia VRS for emergency response work in the county. The writing on the bonnet reads “ambulance, doctor”.

VX56 KLA London Ambulance Service operate this Iveco truck as an equipment support unit.

LD07 XWY This is an example of a Honda CRV used by the British Red Cross in the London area.

P320 NLU Another of the Red Cross’s vehicles is this Ford Explorer with a 4-litre engine. It has ambulance-coloured checker markings but is not fitted with a blue light bar.

In this scene two LAS vehicles have attended a road accident on The Mall. Rapid response cars are often deployed at the same time as ambulances to provide patients with the earliest possible pre-hospital care.

Shown here is an all terrain vehicle (quad bike) covered in yellow and green checker markings. Notice the matching helmet and the blue light on a pole. The unit can provide medical cover at large events and is operated by a private ambulance service.

YJ09 KVT This is a ambulance responder Skoda Octavia Scout pictured in Scarborough, North Yorkshire.

This BMW is an ambulance car which is with the private company Manchester Medical Services.

This Nissan X-Trail is used by a company called First Aid Cover Ltd. They also operate motorbikes, cycles and ambulances from their London base.

LJ54 GFU This is a Renault Master PTS ambulance with the London Ambulance Service. It is decked out with a wide blue stripe down the sides and a blue light bar on the roof.

AJ58 WBV is a British Red Cross emergency equipment unit, parked next to an emergency response unit.

LR58 TPF This Red Cross Ford Transit Connect is used for community training work. It is fitted with a blue light bar on the roof for emergency response work.
