YH02 ZBX is a TENYAS Vauxhall Frontera ambulance rapid response car. It has a green and yellow battenburg colour-scheme over silver bodywork.



This is the same Frontera in its previous role as a senior officer’s car. It has a small crest on each front door and a removable blue light bar on the roof. This is supplemented by permanent flashing blue lights behind the grille and in the rear window. This photograph was taken during its first week of service in April 2002.

This is a Bombardier Outlander Max quad bike developed for ambulance use by Quad Tech. The boxes on the front and rear of the bike can carry specialist equipment. This example is not fully liveried and carries no blue lights. A similar police version is also available.

This is an Iveco-based command and control unit of the Royal Berkshire Ambulance service. It is a high specification vehicle featuring satellite communications and flood lighting. It is also fitted with both blue and green flashing lights.

Next we have a Mitsubishi Shogun belonging to Dorset Ambulance Service. It is fitted with additional clear LED flashing lights both on the front grill and on the front bumper.

This Peugeot 1007 is designed to be used as a paramedic rapid response car.



One of the most novel features of this car is its electric sliding doors. Each door weights 42 kg and takes five seconds to open and six seconds to close – not ideal for emergency use.

E400 DPK This Renault Dodge is a London Ambulance Service control unit. Dating from the late 1980s, this vehicle has been re-liveried since first introduced to keep it looking modern.

M947 JPB This LAS Vauxhall Cavalier 2.0i is used as a control unit vehicle. It has green checkers down both sides and a double blue light on the roof as well as repeaters on the grille. Written down the sides is ‘London Ambulance Service Central Ambulance Control’. This vehicle was still in use on London’s roads in Summer 2005 (at 10 years of age!).

Y544 CGO Another LAS control unit is this VW Transporter.

LG51 AYC This LAS Renault Megane Scenic has a yellow stripe running around it as well as ambulance logos. It does not have any blue lights. Inset: the rear view.

BG51 PKX This is a Mercedes Benz Sprinter that is used by the LAS as a mechanics’ support unit. It is fitted with amber flashing lights as it may have to stop in a dangerous position to assist a stranded ambulance. It is run by a private company that is contracted to provide services to the ambulance service.

AY53 DFX This yellow Vauxhall Astra estate is with the training department of London Ambulance.

LJ04 YLY This LAS tender vehicle can transport equipment to the scene of a major incident. It is fitted with blue lights.

KE03 YHF This Iveco ambulance (with Profile bodywork) is run by ‘Medical Services’. It is a private ambulance but carries the NHS logo as they work in partnership with Great Ormond Street Hospital.

This is a 2005 ford Focus estate in ambulance service livery. The front of the vehicle is is stark comparison to the Vauxhall Astra at the top of this page, since this car has no repeater lights on the front.

EJ04 XXD is an MG ZT liveried as an ambulance vehicle. It has operated by the Harley Street Ambulance Service (private). It carries the wording down the side: Harley Street Response Vehicle.

FJ05 ODR is a 2005 Vauxhall Zafira used by an emergency care practitioner of the East Midlands ambulance service. The practitioners are based in the community and can respond to 999 calls. They provide on the spot emergency treatment to patients, helping to relieve pressures on the emergency ambulance service

This small Mercedes Vito is a small control unit. This vehicle is fitted with caravan type awnings on the near and off side to increase the amount of useable space.



This vehicle is used by the Sussex Ambulance Service and has bodywork by MacNeillie. The vehicle is fitted with blue, green, orange and white flashing lights, as well as external work lights.

AE54 FJP is a road legal golf buggy used by Medicman, a private ambulance service, to provide cover at large outdoor events. The vehicle is fitted only with one blue light and is heavily sponsored by SP Services.

AO02 UBJ is an silver ambulance Honda CRV.



Now we have another Honda CRV, but is a completely different livery to the vehicle above. This model has been modified by UVM.

R892 WRA is a privately operated Vauxhall Vectra.

LK54 LUB is a St. John Ambulance Vauxhall Zafira. The vehicle is based at the Prince of Wales district headquarters in London.

KE04 PYA The rear view of an identical vehicle based at the same location.

LJ53 BXZ This yellow Vauxhall Zafira is also with the LAS. It is used by the Duty Station Officer to respond to emergencies and travel around their area. On the roof is a full-width blue light bar, with an amber beacon on top for airfield use. Repeater small flashing blue lights are on all sides of the car.

LJ05 BSY This is a very similar looking Zafira but without the ‘Duty Station Officer’ wording. It also has a clear light bar on the roof and is approximately 18 months newer than the above example.

LG52 NXB and LX54 VVD (behind). These two Vauxhall Corsas are used by the LAS too. Despite having different body colours they have the same sparse livery. The newer silver car is a much higher specification than the older white one. This higher spec includes alloy wheels and fancier body trim.

YN05 RHU and YN05 XUL (left to right). A 2005 South Yorkshire Renault Master ambulance is joined by a 2005 Volvo V70 rapid response car.

This is a Vauxhall Astra Estate rapid response car. One of the most notable features on this vehicle is the number of LED repeater lights it has on the front. There are two mounted on the grill, two mounted on the sides of the bumper and two integrated into the door mirrors.

Here we have a Renault Megane II 1.9 dci estate in an unusual partial ambulance yellow livery. This car also features repeater lights in the grill and on the wings.

DX54 XER This is a St. John Ambulance Land Rover. Notice the four LEDs in the front grille and the amber lights in the roof light bar.

D519 UGN A blast from the past is this Bedford CF showing the livery of London Ambulance Service. This was never a real London Ambulance Vehicle, it was an ex-Military ambulance from USAF Upper Heyford and purchased for a business supplying ambulances for films and TV, normally running on false London number plates.  It has appeared in The Bill, Mr Bean and many others. It was spotted in Newcastle in spring 2005.
