ex-Northumbria Ambulance Service
Cheverolet GMC
This was the very first Chevrolet that Northumbria bought in 1993. There were six in the batch and this model served from new at Wallsend. It has a 6.2 litre diesel engine and was an unusual sight on the roads of the UK. The personalised registration plate caused quite a lot of controversy in the local press regarding the waste of money on buying the plate. It was initially intended that the service retain the plates, but they did not! The ex-ambulance is seen here photographed in 2015 when it was a non-runner in need of a full refurbishment.

Fire and Rescue Ambulance. This is an ambulance that is manned by firefighters and is used when it is much closer to an incident than a regular ambulance. If required, the patient can be transported to hospital in it or alternatively be handed over to the local ambulance service. This is the first of a wave of fire-ambulance vehicles that began appearing in the UK from 2015.
